On the occasion of his 160th birthday, Dr. Syed Akram Rasool, a prominent social activist and freedom fighter of our state Odisha, pays tribute to him...
May Allah grant his immortal soul in Paradise... Ameen.
Dr. Ekram Rasool received his medical education and became involved in social service. Later, he joined the freedom movement at the call of Gandhiji and was imprisoned for many years in Hazaribagh Jail in 1923. He also attended the Great Session of the Indian National Congress in Nagpur in 1920 along with Gopbandhu Das and other representatives. On the instructions of Mahatma Gandhi, Odisha National Congress President and Dr. Syed Akram Rasool took over the responsibility of the late Gopbandhu as the vice-president, and after the death of Gopbandhu Das, Dr. Rasool got the privilege of taking over the responsibility of the president. His philanthropy in the fields of social service, education and health care is exceptional. Akram Rasool High School in Salepur area bears his memory.
Unfortunately, he is not wanted at the official level. As a result, it is natural that today's generation forgets his dedication and hard work. Request that the government pay special attention to protect his memory.
